About This Course

DHIS2 (District Health Information Software 2) is the world's largest health management information system platform, deployed in more than 100 countries and used by millions of health workers to collect, analyse, and act on health data. Its flexibility, open-source architecture, and powerful analytics capabilities make it the backbone of national and sub-national health information systems across Africa, Asia, and beyond.

Despite its widespread adoption, many organisations struggle to unlock the full potential of DHIS2 due to gaps in technical capacity. Staff often lack the skills to correctly install and configure the system, design meaningful data collection forms, build insightful dashboards, or troubleshoot common system issues. These gaps lead to poor data quality, underutilised platforms, and missed opportunities for evidence-based decision-making.

TrainingComplex's Installation, Use and Maintenance of DHIS2 Training is a comprehensive 10-day programme designed to build end-to-end technical competency across the DHIS2 ecosystem. Participants progress from foundational concepts and server installation through to metadata configuration, data collection and validation, analytics, user management, and ongoing system maintenance. Each day combines structured instruction with intensive hands-on lab sessions, ensuring that skills are immediately applicable in participants' own organisations.

This course is suitable for professionals at the intersection of health and technology — including health information officers, M&E specialists, database administrators, and Ministry of Health ICT staff — who are responsible for deploying, managing, or using DHIS2 in national, district, or facility-level contexts. Whether you are setting up a new instance or seeking to better administer an existing deployment, this programme provides the structured, expert-led foundation you need.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Linux or server administration background to attend this course?

A basic level of computer literacy is sufficient to enrol. The course introduces all necessary Linux and server concepts from the ground up during the installation modules, and facilitators provide step-by-step guidance throughout the lab sessions. Participants with some prior Linux or database experience will progress more quickly, but it is not a hard prerequisite.

Will I receive a certificate upon completing the course?

Yes. Participants who attend the full 10-day programme and complete the capstone project will receive a TrainingComplex Certificate of Completion in DHIS2 Installation, Use and Maintenance. This certificate can be used to demonstrate practical DHIS2 competency to employers and programme partners.

What equipment do I need to bring or have access to?

Each participant should bring a laptop with at least 8 GB of RAM and administrator privileges to install software. For in-person sessions, TrainingComplex provides lab environments with pre-configured virtual machines; for the Live Virtual format, participants will be given access to a cloud-hosted lab environment prior to the course start date.

Is this course aligned with the official DHIS2 Academy curriculum?

This course covers the same core competencies as the DHIS2 Fundamentals and DHIS2 Customisation online courses offered through the DHIS2 Academy, and goes further with hands-on installation and system administration content. While TrainingComplex is an independent training institute, the curriculum is designed to complement and reinforce DHIS2 Academy learning pathways.

Can this training be customised for our organisation's specific DHIS2 instance?

Yes. TrainingComplex offers bespoke in-house delivery where facilitators can work with your organisation's existing DHIS2 configuration, datasets, and reporting structure. Contact us before enrolment to discuss tailored delivery options for teams of five or more participants.
